Problems With Initial Boot-Up
I followed the build your pc guide to the initial boot-up stage where the exact thing my computer does is the small fan at the back and the cpu fan make a weird electrical noise for half a sec, and nothing happens afterwards, plus the small fan at the back of the case turns on for half a sec.
At first i thought it was my power supply because it was a 480 watts simple psu that i had brought from ebay so I tried a new one that was 600 watts but it also failed. 600 Watts PSU: Power X, Sumvision -Surge Proof -Temperature control for fan -Complies with FCC part 15 class B 115 VAC operation and CISPR22 230 VAC operation -Low noise and ripple -Over 72% efficiency typical on full load Output over voltage. Overcurrent protection -Short circuit protection on all output -100% burn-in tested(45* + 5* C) -100% hi-pot ATE tested -Over 50,000 hours MTBF at 25* C -+5VSB 2.5A -20+4 pin connection -Sata connector Motherboard MS-70091 VER 1.0 Specs - HTML Code:

Fan airflow 5.92 - 40.24 CFM Fan air pressure 0.07 - 3.19 mm H20 Fan life expectancy 40000/hrs Fan connector 4-pin (Power Management) Bearing type Ball Bearing Voltage rating 12V Noise level 19 - 38.0 dB(A) Thermal interface AK-460 thermal compound pre-applied Product code AK-961 I think there may be something wrong with my motherboard, mainly in the 4-pin connection as the power button works but the the fans do not turn on for some reason :S I would greatly appreciate any help. |

Yep i've tried that, Im guessing this means i have to replace the motherboard because psu is definitely in working order and is compatible, the cpu mainly for Socket lga775 as well as the fan, i guess that means i gota spend another 40 quid :/

What are the rest of the components that you are using?
Do you have spare parts? And just to make sure, you do have it out of the sace, correct? |

there is nothing else of importance to include really because iam using an old 40 gb hard drive i found that still works for some reason and has an OS installed on it already, plus a asus graphic card which i cant seem to find the box to :P since im just trying to get it to boot im not really worrying about hdd and the other stuff, i believe the above components are enough to at least power it.
Hmmm sparess well i did have quite alot of them like a month ago but i left them at my old house when i moved so What do you mean by sace? EDIT: by sace do you mean out of the case? if so i just tried powering it up out of the case but the exact same thing happened, even with my other crappy 450watts psu it did not work

Yeah, I meant case.
So with just the basics out of the case, you can't get it to post. That means that at least one of those compnents are bad. I don't lreally like the sound of either of those power supplies, personally, but I'll assume for now that they should at least get you to post if you know they're working units. How many sticks of ram do you have installed? Do you have more then one so you can try one at a time, and try it in different slots? Do you have both the 24 and 4 pin power cables plugged into the motherboard? Does your video card require a power cable? The mother board would be a good thing to replace next. |
