Building first gaming computer, how does this look?
I've decided to finally go the route of building a gaming computer for the first time as opposed to buying a prebuilt one. I have all of the parts picked out, but before I order them I'd like to check around a few different sites to see if theres anything people would suggest I change, maybe replace something that will be cheaper yet not have a lot of performance loss. So here it is so far.
Samsung 2443BW-HAS 24IN http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...g&promoid=1074 Q9550 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...l&promoid=1074 Antec 900 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...3&promoid=1074 Mushkin HP PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-12 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit, http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...5&promoid=1074 Samsung SH-S223Q/BEBN Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL16X/12X Lightscribe DVD Writer SATA OEM, http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...2&promoid=1074 Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive 3YR MFR Warranty, http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...4&promoid=1074 Asus P5Q Pro http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...8&promoid=1074 PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W ATX V2.2 EPS12V 24PIN SLI Active PFC Power Supply Black, $125 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...1&promoid=1074 Radeon HD4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDTV-Out, HDMI http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...21661(ME).aspx The games I'll be playing will be typically shooters, like Crysis and such. Also my budget isn't a huge factor, I'm just trying to keep it below or around $1800. |

Nice build.
Only suggestions I would offer are: Get either a lite-on or asus dvd burner. Sata and retail. I haven't heard good about samsung drives. Save a few bucks with this ram: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...acture=MUSHKIN And look at the cheaper, and faster E8500. Don't forget the OS, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

Alright thanks, I'll look into changing the burner, as well as the E8500. That was actually the CPU I was looking into getting in the first place, and I was thinking about going back to it. I've already got the OS, keyboard, mouse and speakers, but is there anything else I am gonna need that I may be missing for building this computer?

I'd go with SEAGATE Drives.
Unless you are planning on being in some benchmarking competitions, you won't see abit of difference between a 4870x2 and a 4870, and you'll still have an ultimately vivid display on that new SAMSUNG. You can take some of the money you've saved video card-wise and go ahead and get an E8600. That's what I'd do. Of course, there is no substitute for PC POWER & COOLING. Good move there.

Alright thanks, I'll consider doing that too. As for a different burner, is this a good one?
ASUS DRW-2014L1T DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW 20X6X16 DL 8X SATA http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...nufacture=ASUS Unfortunately I don't know much about burners so if anyone could reccomend anything better, that'd be great. |

That looks good. Unfortunately ncix doesn't seem to have a great selection of dvd burners. But I'm sure that will be perfectly fine.

Okay well, after coming to the conclusion that I do not have the time and probably not the skill to build the computer myself, I've turned to a computer store, and luckily for me the store I found has had lower prices than most of the sites that offer these products. Now the only problem is that they do not have some of the parts I had initially wanted, and today I went in and the guy gave me a rundown of the computer and reccommended new parts to me aside from the ones that I had wanted but they didn't have. I would like to make sure these parts are okay, and if anyone could find any better ones, and possibly cheaper, that'd be great.
Here's what I am at so far that I am unsure about: Motherboard: ASUS® P5Q S775 INT P45/ICH10R ATX 1PCIE X16,4D.DDR2-1200MHZ 1600 /1333FSB,SATA RAID0 1394 GBLAN http://www.b-com.ca/product.php?productid=223614&page=1 Memory: KINGSTON DDR2 NON-ECC PC2-8500 2048MB KVR1066D2N7K2/2G (KIT OF 2) MEMORY http://www.b-com.ca/product.php?productid=223271&page=1 Hard Drive: SEAGATE - OEM - ST3500320AS NCQ 500GB SATA 300 HARD DRIVE 9MS 32MB 7200RPM http://www.b-com.ca/product.php?productid=219328&page=1 And it turns out that the monitor I wanted (Samsung 2443BW-HAS 24IN), they do not have at their store. So could somebody reccomend me a similar one to it if possible? And finally, I am actually going to be needing a new mouse and speakers. I'd like a mouse for gaming but nothing too fancy and expensive, probably below $30 or so? And speakers again don't need to be anything really fancy, prefferably below $45. Please use the B-com site for reccomendations, as that is where I'll be buying from. Thanks again! |
