Need Advice

I am going to attempt my first build and I have, I’m guessing an older Motherboard, It is an Asus K8v SE deluxe 754 socket. What would be the best CPU to get for this motherboard? I would like my pc to be very fast and be able to store quite a bit, (music, videos and games) is this motherboard not sufficient or should I go with some other board. Any advice would be appreciated.

Socket 754 was the budget series for Athlon 64s and Semprons and it came out in 2003 (The mid to high end was socket 939.). It's not just older, in tech terms it's antediluvian and you will have trouble finding a processor for it.
If you want a fast pc that board won't work for you.

Well I am buying a piece at a time I would be will to spend about $500 max for the motherbord. So I plan on spending total ...around 1200-1500.

This PCpurpose is to be used as a media center, Lots and lots of Music and DJ programs, viedos and I would like to have enough left over to play a couple of games.
So any recommendations for appropiate componets would be appreciated. Thanks for you advice.

You do not have to spend $500 for a motherboard, unless you're building a server that's going to get pounded on, but you do need an AM2+/Intel LGA 775 motherboard.
That should max out at $250 but we can get you what you need at at least $100 less.
So, pick the processor of your choice, either AMD or Intel, and we can give you several builds to fit the budget from there and make sure your games run as well.

Thanks Pam I appreciate your responce. No I am not building a server, even though I have a huge case , Its the Raidmax Samurai , I like they way it looks and the fact it has alot of room inside. I think AMD would be fine as far as the CPU goes. Again, Thank You for the advice.

I'm partial to the 4870 but unless you want a dual card set up the choice is yours for any single card.

Well the case came w/ a 450 watt P/S but I did not like it so I purchased a 550 watt P/S. I decided I wanted the Asus MoBo you suggested, although I know absolutley nothing about overclocking, what would you reccomend as far as video cards? Again the whole purpose for this build is I want a massive amout of speed and storage space. Most of the work being done on this pc will be music downloads, video editing that type of stuff.
I don't think I will start to venture out into overclocking just yet at least not until I become more familir with all of this, I do really appreciate you taking the time to answer me and giving advice, makes this alot easier. Have a great weekend!!

OK that's a decent power supply for one video card and no over-clocking.
