Gaming Machine for $1000-$1500

I'm new at this, but I would like to build a gaming machine. I'm not sure if I should use and ADM processor and ATi graphics or should I use Intel and Nvidia. I would just like to get a good system for $1000-$1500. Thanks.

Does that price range include a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers or operating system?

Also.
Do you plan on overclocking your system?

Could someone give me an idea of what parts I should use? Also do I need to buy wires and sutch to connect the components or will that stuff come with them? Thanks.

i'm almost positive your essential parts will come with all the necessary cords and attachments. of course you will be able to confirm this once you have your parts selected; wherever you buy it from will tell you what comes with it.

Well........

Here's one idea.
It's INTEL though.

IDEA FOR BUILD

Cases are all over the place. Antec and Coolermaster have some good ones.
Bottom mount PSU options are better, IMO. especially if you have a big CPU cooler.
Hope you can read it.

Vista or xp?

What size monitor?

What kind of games?

As a quick basic build:
MB: Asus p5q
CPU: E8500
Ram: 2x2gb ddr2-800 corsair
HD: Seagate 7200.11 500gb sata
DVD: Lite-on dvd burner, sata, retail
Video: 4850
PSU: Corsair 650
OS: Vista Home Premium OEM
Mouse and keyboard: Look in a local store for what you like
Case: Something you like.

EDIT: I know you wanted an AMD build, but I think you will get better bang for your buck with Intel right now. I'm sure someone that knows AMD better can offer a good mb and cpu substitute for the parts I picked.

I like the build that chuck4456 posted and I'm fine with Intel. Do you think the build he suggested is good? Also I think I want to go with vista.

You won't need the heatsink unless you're going to overclock.

And overclocking will also void your warrenty on the cpu.

Well.
You shoiuldn't have to worry about a warranty if the CPU is kept cool and not overvolted.
Those HSF that come with the CPU are kind of whimpy. They were bad enough in the early Conroe days, but now they have skimped even more.
Overclocking or not, I'd go with a more substantial cooler.
Gives you abit of self assurance.

Good luck with your new build.
Report back if you have a problem.
Or just post in on it when it's up and running.

Ok one last question. I'm getting the Radeon HD 4870 video card and in the pictures it has two places for 6-pin power connectors to attach. Does this mean I have to attach two power cords to it? Thanks.

I know the power supply has them, but do I need to plug in both cord or just one?
