So I'm basically trying to make a build for gaming (Warhammer). And something that I can continue to upgrade for a few years. I've researched what I can. I want to spend around $600.00. give or take.
So Far I know the following: I will have a cd drive and dvd drive, monitor, keyboard, taken from my old computer. I wish to purchase as my new build. - Processor: AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor - Graphics Card: BFG Tech BFGE96512GTOC2E GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card MotherBoard: I'm looking at a mother board of either: ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard or ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard simply because it can take 16gigs of Ram. Ram: I want to start with 2 gigs...but be able to easily add more as needed. My knowledge is rather limited...basically i have changed out parts from my computer. SO I have a few quick questions. 1. How do you tell exactly what Ram will go in a given board or do they all take DDR2 now, meaning are the above part compatible with 2 gig DDR2 Ram? 2. I assume any Harddrive will do for instance a 320GB 16mb 7200RPM SATA2? 3. How do I tell if the CPU comes with or needs a cooling fan? 4. How important is the case? Will any case be ok...or do you get what you pay for? 5. Do most/all motherboards have basic sound functions or are speakers necessary? Anyhow any suggestions to point me in the right way would be appreciated.d Thanks in advance. Aramn

Retail CPUs come with heatsink and fan.
Check the specs for the MB of interest and it should show you the recommended RAM If you get one of the ASUS motherboards, it will have onboard audio A good case is very important. Good ventilation is a must. |

Update
I tried to get everything in one place ...will the following work?
Does anyone have suggestions for where I could cut some costs without really cutting quality? Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128090 The specs state that using 1066 ram depends on the processor. With this processor and that 1066 ram will work on the motherboard?? Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...249-_-Homepage Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820161277 Case and Power supply combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119047 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171025 Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133239 Cooling Fan: (Will I need this)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106113 Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148155 I have an old CD, Floppy and DVD that I will add as well. (But is a floppy necessary?) Am I missing , forgetting, clueless about anything? Thanks Again Last edited by Alaron; 09-20-2008 at 09:43 PM. |

Fixed your links.
The build list looks pretty good. I have a few suggestions. You can save a bit with this hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 Same specs, but its a desktop drive instead of the server model in your list. I'd swap for this power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004 Good quality and better price after rebate. I'd get Corsair brand RAM instead of Wintec.
