okay, after a few hrs of searching the forums and hating the time it was taking, i decided it was more effective just to post a new thread on the issue.
spec's mobo - (asus, p4s8x-x) .bought on ebay proc - pentium 4 2.8 prescott. bought on newegg "open box" power - 900 watt. new ram - 1 gb non-ecc, unbuffered kingston.( 1 installed) new cooling - ( i forgot). bought it from newegg new hdd - n/a vga - n/a(none on board) problem the power light on the motherboard lights up so its certainly getting power. the board is installed in a case. the tower is new. the coin battery is dead, so i well replace it asap. scenario i plug it in, press the power button on the tower, it responds and powers up, it then shuts off a split a split sec afterwards. i later, tested the batter with a voltage meter i got for a class. it confirmed the lack of power. in my high school classes ive flash bios before. however from what i can recall no battery means no bios, and i have no idea on how to install bios from nothing.i have an extra dvd drive, but my my experience is limited to floppys( yes i know floppys are being replaced by ssd's and cd's) soo...with that said, .... how do i install bios into a mobo that has been dead for over 2 months, threw dvd drive? Just cause the battery is dead doesn't mean it has deleted the bios. Just get a new battery. (It's like a clock. If the battery dies, the clock doesn't forget how to tell time, it just stops till it has a new battery.)
After that, follow this guide: PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!!

second test failure
okay i checked the the thread, no change...so, im thinking it maybe a faulty part.
the only components i could test were the fans, and power supply. they work great how do i test processors? seeing as it was open box it would be the most likly. |

If you have everything out of the case, and just the bare essential components, then you shouldn't have any fans connected except the heatsink.
If it doesn't post after that, then the only way to test parts is through substitution. |
