Not bad.
I think the q6600 would still be the sweet spot for the quads. You might also want to consider the e8500. It's a faster dual core.

A lot depends...
on what you want to do with it.
Dollar for dollar, the Q6600 or the E8500 are great buys. E 8500 will be easier to keep cool if you are gaming or overclocking. If you go with a Q6600 or any Quad core for that matter, you need some decent CPU cooling. These are very good with Quads: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...l?tl=g40c14s52 http://www.frozencpu.com/products/63...l?tl=g40c14s52 An Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro would cover that with an E8500. This would cover it in the video card department: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102795 You'll need a solid and stable power supply.

Hi xzero
Are you going to be overclocking? Out of the box the Q6600 is just a little slower than a Q9300 (not enough to warrant the extra price of the 9300). The 9400 is only marginally faster than a Q9300 so you're probably still better off saving the money and getting a Q6600. If you're overclocking then the main difference between the 6600 and 9300 is power consumption. The 9300 will use almost half the power when overclocked so can be cooled more easily (and is greener!). If you are overclocking I wouldn't bother with the 9400 at all, as it will give you the same potential performance as the 9300. If you want something more then grab a 9450 which has twice as much cache. having said all that if your main use is gaming then your better off with a faster dual core anyway. |
