Another Noob entering the home-built PC world...

Greetings!

I joined the forum because my roomate and I have decided to build our own cost-effective gaming computer. I have been researching and reading countless guides... but I am still so lost when it comes to choosing parts/compatible parts, and then knowing what it will give me...its overwhelming! If anyone has a build that will do the following, if you could post it for me I would forever be in your debt!

Intel or AMD?:
No preference.

Parts needed?:
All, including monitor/speakers/ etc.

Whats it need to do?:

This is a gaming computer, preferably to run the likes of Fury, Oblivion, Assasins Creed...etc
However, I am a student. I need it be able to access the internet, and have some type of word proccessor, preferably Word 08. Being able to house the entire Microsoft Office Pack (excel, word, powerpoint atleast) would be ideal!

Budget?:

$1000 +/- $200

Dependability/Reliabilty is always a must, but I assume that goes without saying!

Thank you guys so much! I am sure it gets old having noobs like me asking for builds, but Karma will reward you for helping the noobie! I think I mentioned everythign I needed to, if not I apologize and will be checking back frequently to anser your questions/thank you for your help!

AMD 6000 or Intel E8300
ATI 3870
3GB DDR2 800
Asus M3A or P5K
Windows Vista Home Premium
250GB Hard Drive preferably WD or Seagate
I would get an Antec Case with 500 W power supply built in
A Sony or Liteon DVD burner

You are good to go for the budget you are looking to spend

For word processing and spread sheets and such you can get open office and it will do all microsoft office can do for you for free it is right here www.openoffice.org

If you are in the USA go to www.newegg.com and have fun shopping

Your budget is a bit tight for a gamer but doable. But Microsoft Office would blow the budget unless you can get a student copy from your school or use Open Office(free).
Here's some starting parts:
Asus P5Q mobo
Intel E8200 or E8400 CPU
2gigs of Corsair XMS DDR2 800 ram
Seagate 7200.11 HD (pick a size) SATA
Lite-One DVD burner SATA (retail)
Case- your choice
Video card- will let the gammers come in on this
monitor: check local electronics or office supply stores for sales.
PSU: FSP or Corsair, Coolermaster if budget is tight.

Thanks so much guys!
This gives me the jumping point for me to look at the parts and analyze them!

BTW, this may be a totally ridiculous stupid question, but it says Liteon DVD burner, does that literally mean I will have the ability to burn DVDs, or is that just computer talk for a powerful drive?
