Pci 2.1, 2.2, 2.3

I was looking around on newegg, and found out that a dedicated LAN/NIC card can seriously improve game pings and general internet usage.

I'm very interested, looks like $30 can seriously improve my games.

The only problem was this: What's the difference between the PCI versions? I had no idea that PCI even had versions. I ask the obvious question here: Can a 2.1 work in a 2.2, and a 2.3 in a 2.2 (etc etc)?

Also, I looked all over my motherboard manual, it didn't say anything about which version the PCI slots were. But that won't really matter if the different PCI slots are compatible with each other.

Thanks for replies!
