Opinions on new build please
I'd greatly appreciate opinions on this build. It is going to be used mostly to play MMORPGs (Warhammer currently) and make small videos. It needs to be decent for gaming purposes, but we want to keep cost under control.
Questions I am specifically interested in:
We have a HD (SATA) and a monitor (19" wide). This will be used with XP Home to begin with, possibly upgrading to Vista in a year. Mother Board ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail Case & Power Supply RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail Video Card MSI NX8800GT 512M OC GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card Memory OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Sound Card 8 channel on MB. I greatly appreciate your input. |

Looks ok.
My suggestion is to get a better quality power supply. RaidMax is junk. Here is our list: What Power Supply should I get? How many Watts? Who made it? Guide Inside

Go with Seasonic or FSP when it comes to power supplies, Antec is good too you get a nice 5 year warranty!
I would go with the AMD 6000 simply for the fact that it has 2 x 1MB L2 Cache instead of the 2 x 512KB on the 5000, that will come in handy big time with Warhammer and the price is awesome http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103773

Do you think that the video card is the best option in that price range?
Thanks again. |

Unless you're especially interested in the game that comes with the MSI card, this would be my choice instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133232

MSI's customer support does not exist. You have to leave a voice mail only to never get an answer, they do not answer their emails either and when they do it is automated telling you they will contact you soon, that was months ago. I would not use an MSI product if it was free.
Go with the PNY, they have humans you can talk to if you have any issues. |
