Exclamation 6 week old build suffering multiple problems

This is my first ever computer build. I spent a long time researching, and asking questions on this forum before going ahead with it. So thanks alot to everyone who offered their advice.

This build has yielded three problems so far, the first being my Samsung DVD drive dying, which is currently in the process of being replaced, the second is that the front audio ports on my case don't work. Antec said they would send a replacement but that was weeks ago, still nothing.

And thirdly this strange problem which I've had for a few days now.

So I'll be playing a game, browsing the internet, pretty much anything really, and then all of a sudden the fan(s) (haven't discovered which fan(s) yet) will run at full speed, the screen will go into standby (orange light on the power button), and if there are any sounds playing they will go into a loop. I have to press the reset button to get out of it.

Halp

system specs:

LG Flatron L227WT 22"

Antec 1200

4GB Mushkin 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 RAM, @ 4-4-4-12

Asus P45 P5Q Pro motherboard

WD 6400AAKS 640GB HD

Samsung 22X dvd burner

Radeon HD 4870

Corsair TX750W PSU

Q6600

Thermaltake 120 extreme cpu cooler with scythe flex fan

Windows Vista H-Premium 64Bit

It's disheartening when the first time you build a PC multiple pieces of hardware start failing for no apparent reason, to say the least..

4 timings are probably too tight for 4 gigs. Loosen them up to 5-5-5-15 and use a Refresh Cycle of 50 or 55.
Be sure that you are running them at specified voltage.
FP Audio wise-
There should be a little ground wire running from the front panel to the chassis. Take the screw out, scrape or sand the connector as well as the zone in which it attaches. Connect it back and make sure the screw is tight. Careful though. It can strip if you torque it down too fast. That usually fixes my FP audio not working when it comes to ANTEC cases.

I find it hard to believe that it's the ram timings, I've had them running at 4-4-4-12 for over a month with no problems. Plus I am only running at the timings and voltage which Mushkin recommend. If it is the RAM then I would be inclined to get that replaced because it does not meet the advertised spec..

Thanks for helping

You could run memory and hard drive diagnostics.

See what those tell you.

I'll run Prime95 for the RAM, but how can I diagnose the HD?

No.

Run http://www.memtest.org/#downiso to test the memory

Hd diagnostics: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...sid=30&lang=en

Both can be found on the ultimate boot cd: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

Download the iso's, and burn it as an image. Then restart with the cd in the drive, and boot from the cd.

Ok but I'll have to wait until my CD Drive is replaced before I can do that. *sigh*

PRIME 95 blend will more than tell you if you have a problem with your memory or your memory settings. If the memory settings are off or the voltage is not correct, then it usually won't make it thru the first set of Large FFTs.
