New Build (Question regarding OS choice)

My first post, so far i've found this forum really helpful in relation to choosing the right hardware. I have all the hardware at home, gonna start the build this weekend, but there is still one thing I haven't decided on, the OS. I need advice on the following:

What OS do you think I should buy XP or Vista? OEM or Retail? (leaning towards oem because I have already went a little over budget)

If my friend has windows vista retail is it possible for me to install it from his copy? (Advantanges or disadvantages, if applies)

Thanks!

go oem its cheaper and the same thing you just dont get the booklet. No you cannot install your friends copy unless he also has an unused license he is willing to sell or give you.

xp vs vista seems to be a persional preference right now.

If your new build can handle vista, then you might want to go for it. You obviously seen it on your friends computer, so you should know if you would like it.
