Fortunately Im just starting this project and have not purchased anyting at this point. So Ive chosen this combination of basic componanants thus far.
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual-Core Processor -
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
ECS A780GM-A AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Antec EA650 650W ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

The question I have is where do I access the information as to how much ram will this combo utilize?

How much power is nessassary?

Welcome.

Those parts won't work. You chose an intel processor, but an amd motherboard. You will need to pick which way you want to go.

What is your budget? Will that include a monitor, keybioard, and mouse? What about operating system?

What will this computer be used for?

We can help you get a good customized build from there.

Thank you for the info, Im sure glad I found this page before I started.
Im looking to spend 6~700.00. I dont game much but my brother does. Im a musician so the sound card is important. I will want to edit music, sound tracks etc. Burn CD's and maybe DVD"s I have a ancient dell precision 530 that simply doesnt keep up. I would like the new system to use Windows XP pro. wich I own + I have allot of other programs I will install once I build the new one. I chose a spendy tower (alluminum) so it might cost allitle more I have a good monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker systems.
Anyway my existing system bareley downloads the tutorials. Is there a page with illistrations and text that might be allitle more efficiant?
Thank you for your concideration: Sincereley Matthew.

You can try to start with this, a basic build:

MB: Asus P5Q
CPU: E8500
Ram: Corsair 2x1 gb ddr2-800
HD: Seagate 7200.11 500gb sata
DVD: Lite-on dvd burner sata retail
PSU: Corsair 550
Video: 4850
Case: Your choice

See what that totals up to, and we can customize it from there.

Boom Kewel hookup dude

Thanx for the help!
The price of the computor componants you suggested looks fine, however what about sound? Im a musician and intend to use this box to aid with my primary hobbie. Does the MB you suggested have a better than average sound chip? Also expansion cap. Do I need more stuph? Probably uh!

Newer MOBO's have some excellent on-board sound but I don't know if it is good enough for what you need. I'd give it a try...you can always purchase a sound card later if the on-board isn't sufficient.
