Intel MOBO
Hi gang
I will try to make this as short as I can. Puting together a new computer drive. Using a Intel DG965WH, and a 775 3.2 CPU 2g of ram. Connecting new Maxtor SATA drive, and a DVD drive. I do not have a boot up disc just the software for the MOBO. And a Floppy with Raid drivers. Now I cannot get it to read either the floppy or the DVD drive. When I go into the cmos I see them all,, but that is as far as it will go. No matter how I set it up or go with the defauts, I cannot get the SATA to be active, they all say not installed. I have set the cmos to boot to the DVD drive, the Floppy, nothing happens. There are 6 SATA ports. When all is said a nd done it comes up with this, Media failure try new cable Exiting Intel boot agent No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key. This is all I can get, and I have tried any # of cables. If you have your HD connected SATA and they say that SATA is not installed, where do you go from there.? Any help appreciated....Gunny

You have the optical drive set as the FIRST boot device? Are you trying to boot from the operating system cd? Do you have both the power supply and sata cables connected to the HDD? |

Hi Minsonngo
Ya I have tried all combinations, Optical drive first, Floppy first, HD first boot device. I have tried to boot from it and the MOBO CD, and even that Raid floppy. And yes I do have both cables connected for the SATA from the power supply, to the HD. I think I see where you are coming from, it appears like they are not there, like you are thinking the cables arre not connected. Thanx...Gunny |

Not sure if the motherboard cd or the floppy is bootable.
You need to find a bootable operating system cd (Windows XP, Vista, etc.) and boot from it. Set the optical drive as the FIRST boot device and boot from the OS cd. |

I have tried that also. Tried a Vista, and XP Pro. Like I said it is like they are not even there. I have tried so many different things, and componets, and nothing changes. You would think some thing would change, with all the times I have tried this. I have never had a MOBO that showed the SATA ports not installed. When you go into the bios, it shows each one of them, 6 of them, and each one says not installed. This is my first INtel board, still am using Asus board, and moving up the ladder you might say, going the dual core, and DDR2 ram etc.
Thanx....Gunny |

Reset everything in the CMOS setup to DEFAULT settings.
Try leaving the floppy disconnected... set the optical drive as the first boot device... pop in your OS cd and boot up and see if that garners you any postive results. |

I have done that too many times to count. I have tried the default settings, tried some of my own, etc. Tried with the floppy connected and disconnected. I know how frustrating this must be for you trying to figure some thing out like this. I know how frustrating it is for me too. If it would just do some thing different, I would be happy.
Thanx...Gunny |

Hi...Just to keep you up to date, I changed the power supply, subbed some Mem sticks too. No change. Exact same things taking place. I hope this MOBO and or CPU is not bad, but I am more and more leaning toward this. I have been reading a great # of problems that other people are having a similar problems, And a lot of them are saying update the bios. I have not done this, mainly because it don't really impress me as some thing that would fix this. What is your opinion.?
Thanx....Guny |

Did a little test. Took out all the mem sticks, started it up and got 3 beeps. From what i have read this is not a definite thing that the MOBO/CPU is good, but a good sign they might be good.
Thanx...Gunny |

Hi gang
Another question...When I go into the bios and bring up the SATA ports, why don't it show if I have some thing connected to one of them. And why don't it allow me to change or install them, instead it skips right over them.? Thanx...Gunny |

It could be a faulty motherboard. The reviews on the DG965WH are up or down from person to person.
It seems the newest BIOS update helped some people. |

Switch the selection of the SATA port maybe one specific SATA port is desired for a bootable device. Some older motherboards had SATA ports off of 2 controllers and one controller worked better.
