New Build (Video Editing Rig)

Hey all, I'm replacing a very old system for an associate who does video editing for a living. His software of choice is VideoToster. The only guidelines I have is that there must be 5 internal drivers (1 System and the others arranged as a raid). These are the parts I am considering. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Harddrive:
(x1) Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
and
(x4) Western Digital Caviar RE2 WD5000ABYS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Video Card:
HIS Hightech H365Q512GNP Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

Audio:
Creative 70SB088000004 7.1 Channels PCI Express 1x Interface PCI Express Sound Blaster

Power:
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Case:
Antec P182 Gun Metal Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model

Mobo:
ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard

Ram:
G.SKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Quad Kit Desktop Memory Model
F2-8800CL5Q-8GBPI

Edit: Updated specs

Welcome to PCMech.

I'd go with a more proven Intel motherboard like the Asus P5Q. There is no reason to get an SLI board for a Radeon video card.

The TruePower PSU is nice but a little overkill, even for a lot of hard drives. The Corsair 650w would be a great choice.

Go for SATA Hard drives instead of IDE.

Rest looks fine.

You might want to go with a large SATA HDD instead of the IDE you have listed.

I'm glad you mentioned the motherboard because I heard some great things about this board but i've always uses Asus and loved it, so I wasn't too sure about that. The hard drives were just a mistake that i'm glad were pointed out. I had picked the 1000w power supply because of all the hard drives but I am reconsidering it on your advice. Thanks so much.

Thanks for pointing that out, it was a strange mistake. How about these SATAs?

For the primary hard drive... look into the VelociRaptors:

I would have suggested the SSD type hard drives. But they are still relatively new and the bugs are still being worked out.

I was thinking about the velociraptors but I wasn't sure I'd see enough of a performance increase. However I'm not going to start in with the solid state drives just yet.

Video editing tends to be intrinsically multitasking. Would a quad be worth it? I can imagine converting format, editing a video and surfing the web all at the same time as being pretty normal. Just a thought.

I'm toying with that idea right now. Would it be worth it?

It depends on how professional/patient you are. A quad core can make a heck of a lot of difference when rendering movies.

I wish I could remember the website that was dedicated to video editing (If I think of it I'll post the website), anyways for video card it might prove beneficial to do a little more research for I know there are video cards out there that are dedicated to video editing. I also think there are add-on cards that will take the load off the cpu when it comes to rendering videos, but like I said I'm no expert and I wish my memory was a little better right now. Just some food for thought.
