Procedure to build a PC

Hello

I want to put together a general procedure for PC building so I know what steps to follow as I am about to build my first one.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4
E8500
2X 1GB DDR2 Corsair Dominator CM2X1024-8500C5D (2.1V)
Temp (7900GTX)
Corsair 620HX PSU
Antec P182
DVD/CD drive
Samsung F1 Spinpoint 750GB HDD

1. Install CPU, CPU cooler, Memory and GPU card outside case connect up power and check for passing POST

2. Install all compoents in case

3. Power up again and go into BIOS and adjust DRAM voltage inthis case as my RAM choice operates at 2.1V.

4. Setup single SATA HDD in BIOS (could someone explain please)?

5. Setup boot order, CD-ROM then HDD

6. Reboot and load windows XP CD and partition drive c:\ plus D:\ (D drive for recovery partition), BOTH NTFS partitions

7. Install XP

8. Load motherboard drivers and install drivers !!! not sure what to load here, can someone tell me?

Is that it?

cheers

krishan

3: Would set the BIOS to auto detect the ram and set the timings.
4: Would think that means don't use RAID setting or to set SATA for IDE.
6: Setting up a partition is an option. Partitioning is a personal thing depending how a person wants to organize Apps/Games/Data/recovery/backups/etc.
8: Motherboard drivers will be on the CD/DVD that came with the motherboard. Add on components like video cards/plug in network devices/etc should have a driver CD/DVD with each part.

Many MOBO driver install discs have a "quick" install that will install all the necessary drivers. (Chipset-audio-video etc.) Then you can install any optional software that is included. Look any extra software over carefully as some may be "trial" versions.
