Gaming Rig - Advice on Mobo & CPU

Good day all;

I am looking to build a system for online gaming. Right now I am playing Warhammer Online, which admittedly is not very intensive. I need recommendations for a MOBO and a CPU to match.

I would like to use AMD and I would also like to use an Asus Board. In my current system i am using an Asus A8N-SLI and AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor Socket 939 Retail. I have had really good experience with this set-up. i have not utilized the SLI Aspect of the Board, however.

One issue I do have is - when i get into heavy pvp action I tend to get a lot of lag or delay. I cannot tell if this is due to my interent connection (AT&T DSL), Mobo/CPU or my Graphics Card which is an EVGA 6800GS 256MB Board.

Thanks for your input.

Without knowing the speed of your DSL connection I can't speculate on that but your hardware does need an update even though it's within game specs.

What's your budget and is there any of the old hardware that you want to keep ?

Hmm.. Mate I would say it could be 6800GS Graphics and Possibly the Athlon 64.

Im an Intel person but my recommendations would be: (This is an English Website, however these parts you should be able to buy on somewhere like NewEgg)

nVidia Geforce 9600/9800GT(x possibly)

Asus M3A78-CM 780G Motherboard: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150281

AMD Phenom 9550: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143261

Pam / Tom;

Thank you both for your replies. i don't necessarily have a price point except, i need to be conservative. By the best for a reasonable price. Actually... the items tom mentioned are perfect price points for me.

I will need to decide if I want to simply re-build my comp and replace the 3 major components - mobo / cpu / and graphics card. I may throw in 4 Gig of Memory like this.. G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) for $60.00 on newegg.

Thanks folks!

You could also go with an 8800GT. It is the same price as the 9600GT and is equal if not better performance wise. I have had good experience with COD4 on this card.

Before you buy anything do the following to determine if you have bad connection and packet loss

start>run>type cmd>in the black screen type ping www.yahoo.com (or any site you like for that matter)

If you get major packet loss or higher ping times than 150 then you get a connection issue and no matter what video card or cpu you use you are going to lag in an online game.
