Boot Problem

I just built my first system and I,m very happy with it except that whenever I install an update aand restart the computer it says"Windows failed to start. Then down the page it says File: \boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000f". What is the cause of this problem and can it be fix. As for right now I just have to put the Vista disk in every time and tell it to repair the errors.

What are the specs of this computer? Please list the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Is this computer overclocked?

Did you try booting up with just 1 stick of RAM yet?

Test the WD HDD with the WD HDD diagnostic utilities.

No it's no OCed. I have not tried booting with only one stick of DRAM. The Vista DVD says it includes sp1 already. It only has a problem booting up when I install updates. Then I Repair it and there are no problems in till I install another update. I will get the HDD diagnostic and run that. Thanks for the help so far.

Is it always the same update? Or does this happen with different updates?

Are they windows updates, or are you letting windows update drivers?

If it is a OS problem and you clone it to the other HDD... that problem won't go away.

Why don't you just pop in the new HDD as the primary... install a fresh copy of the OS on it... pop in the old HDD as a secondary and copy any important data you want to save over to to the new drive?

Would I just unplug the old hard drive from the MOBO and leave the new one pluged in and install vista on it? Will I be able to keep all my programs and everything else.

Ok I'm installing vista again on the new drive. When I'm done do I just drag everything from the old drive over except the windows file?

You will need to reinstall all the programs again too. Also install all the drivers.

You can copy over all personal files.
