Final check for new build
I've built several PCs thanks to this board and its members and I figured I'd once again let everyone give my build a once-over. I haven't kept up with chipsets and build quality lately, so I'd appreciate it if people could give me any suggestions for improvement. This is to be a bang-for-buck build for playing a few recently released games and some in the future, i.e. Spore, Warhammer Online, and maybe Starcraft/Diablo whenever they come out.
I'm most concerned with the video card and its adequacy and whether I have the appropriate version of Vista, so if there are any recommendations I'd love to hear them. I'm considering just using my old XP Pro disk, but then I'm only running 32 bit and a fraction of my memory and no DX10. Good morning.
Well.
There aren't that many DX10 games. You can save yourself 100 bucks on an OS. These are doing well: HD4870 and I have used quite a few of these: HD3870 Both are tough to beat for the price, and the current prices of the 3870s make Xfire quite affordable. You need a solid, more reliable power supply: PC POWER & COOLING S610 The E8400 comes with a whimpy cooler. Just to be on the safe side, I'd go with (at least) something like this: ACF7 Seagate drives are better, IMO. The rest looks pretty good there.

Look at the e8500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115036
I would consider the Seagates 7200.11 series dirves. Don't forget a dvd drive.

Thanks for the replies. I've added a Lite-On DVD burner, that PC Power & Cooling PSU, and picked out a Seagate drive, though not a 7200.11 - I've loved the 120GB I bought 5 years ago, might as well not mess with success. Upgraded to the 8500 because it's only $20, right?
I'm not planning on overclocking so I didn't bother with a new cooler and I ditched the OS for now. Thanks for the help guys, hopefully my parts will arrive soon and I can get to building again! |
