Ok so I'm planning on doing my first build over winter break. I'm on a budget so here's what I'm thinking about. (Rather not spend more than $800)

Case: HEC ATX mid tower w/ 585w PSU $80

Mobo: Asus M2N-SLI $87
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131246

CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 6000 $82
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103272

RAM: Crucial 2 GB SDRAM DDR2 800 $33

DVD drive: LITE-ON $24
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106263

Hard Drive: Segate Barracuda 250GB $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148261

Video Card: Asus GeForce 9600GT $115

OS: Vista $150..ish

Total: $751 (not including keyboard+mouse)
What do you think?

That RAM is a little cheap......probably wouldn't cut it if you plan on doing any overclocking. Crucial is a good brand, but a CAS latency of 6 is a bit high for DDR2 800. Most higher quality DDR2 800 will have a CAS latency of 4 or sometimes 5.

This ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590

This MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115052

What you save on this mb, you spend on the cpu, so it should even out.

vista: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116485

And that power supply is garbage. You need a quality one. This should be good for your budget: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341012
