What are your system specs?

Is the cpu heatsink/fan installed correctly?

Do you have the correct power supply connectors connected to the motherboard and video card.

What make and model of power supply do you have?

Definately follow the advice in the link pam gave you.

If you still don't get anywhere, then post back, and tell us the make and model of your power supply and mother board.

What is the make a model of the case?

If you access the interior of the case... you should be able to grab the make and model of the PSU from the label on the PSU itself.

You only need standoffs where there is a corresponding hole in the motherboard. Just screw them into the right holes (hold the motherboard over the case tray and memorise where 2 or 3 of the standoffs need to go, take the motherboard out and screw them in).

When installing the motherboard into the case, make sure to move all the cables out of the way so that they don't put pressure on the motherboard. Having cables putting pressure on the motherboard while it is being installed could keep the motherboard from being installed properly and could end up shorting it.

Sounds like something is still shorting out your motherboard.

Also make sure you are not screwing the screws too tight when securing the motherboard.
