Do you have onboard audio enabled in bios?

Did you connect ac-97, or hd?

Go into your bios, and there should be a place there where you can enable or disable on board audio.

You mb manual should tell you exactly.

Are the connections from the case to MOBO connected to AC-97 also?
Is the Bios set to Onboard?

Try downloading and installing the following file and then try to install your driver again. I know this is on HP's site but the software is universal.

One thing that may help (it works a lot when people have trouble with graphics drivers) is to boot up in windows safe mode. You do this by pressing F8 when booting up.

Azalia is High Definition..that should be Disabled.
That MOBO uses VIA VT1708B audio drivers.
Drivers from Asus: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...model=P5KPL-CM

Sorry not important, im still confused
what should I make my BIOS setting? and from which site do i download the new driver?
because i disabled Azalia, and the other option was disable all. so i disabled it all, and on the motherboard CD the audio driver didnt even show up.

You cannot disable the Azalia from the BIOS. That shuts off the onboard audio all together. Go back in and turn everything back to default settings since EVERY motherboard I've ever worked with has the onboard audio option turned on by default or it is set to auto will shut it off only if you install an actual sound card.

Once your BIOS is set to default, it should be as simple as going to the motherboard manufacturers website, grabbing the driver, installing it, and rebooting. If that isn't working for you then you might have a faulty board.

Well that didn't work, so it must be the MOBO. What materials do I need to return it? I have the box, all cables, the mobo itself. Do i need that protective CPU top thing to return it as well?

Hold on there. Once you are sure that everything in the BIOS is set to default and the audio is ON, boot into Windows. Go into the device manager and see if you have any audio devices detected and post back here.

(Right Click My Computer, Go To Properties, Click the Hardware Tab, Then Click The Device Manager Button)

But when I click deivce manager, it says I have a PCI Device with a yellow circle and black exclamation mark, but I didnt install any PCI Devices to my computer.

The onboard audio gets detected as a standard PCI device. So that is indeed your problem, the drivers are not installed. Now you've already downloaded and tried to install the device drivers from the manufacturers website and that didn't work? What happens when you try to install? Any error boxes?

http://support.asus.com/download/dow...model=P5KPL-CM

What if you try the drivers direct from the audio chipset manufacturer?

Did you install the chipset drivers?

Just wondering if that could cause a problem.

If the chipset drivers weren't installed there would've been SMBUS listed with the yellow icon and black exclamation mark. His problem is strictly audio driver related.

When I try from both links it says "We cannot find HD Audio Device". Should I just buy a sound card?
