Hi Gang
Ok I am about ready to start up my new system, now I would like to hang onto my operating system and be able to transfer it intact. From one drive to another. Can you suggest any software/programs/hardware that will allow me to do this. Of course I would like it to be the most secuer system there is. I have a 250G external HD/storage unit, would it be better to use this and download my complete HD, and use this to transfer all my stuff to the new HD.? Or use some thing else. Thanx....Gunny

What operating system are you using?
We normally recommend that new builds use a fresh OS install on their new hard drives. Then you can add in the old hard drive as a secondary drive and copy over any data you'd like to keep. Otherwise, you can use a program like Acronis True Image to make an exact copy of your existing drive and put it on your new drive.

I have to agree with Alaron.
You're much better off with a fresh install and then transfer everything you want to keep from the external drive.

Hi All
Hey I appreciate all your good comments. Looks like you all agree on the fresh install. I have to say I do agree with you all. I do have Acronis, and plan on using it with my 250G external storage. I have heard and read that putting one on over top of another is always bad. Makes sense really. I see we have a couple of staff people now, thats great. I appreciate all your help and comments,,,Thanx...Gunny |
