Is this a healthy CPU Temp?

Its an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHZ, Asus motherboard, 2GB 800mhz RAM, 250GB IDE MAXTOR HDD, and Windows XP. When I'm doing nothing at all except for using the CPU Temp. Checking program, it runs at 50C. I haven't used it heavily so im not sure about that.

50C is pretty warm for idling temps. Is this a new build? If not a good physical cleaning of the Heatsink might help. If it's a new build: be certain the heatsink and fan are seated properly. Does your case have adequate ventilation?

what exact mother board, and what exact cpu?

Also, read this: http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...15&cid=19&pg=6

That would be the best guess. Make sure the motherboard is out of the case when you install the heatsink.

Did you apply any extra thermal compound?

44c idle? That still seems just a bit too high.

What is the actual program name that you're using?

Make sure there are no programs running when windows starts up. Something could be running in the back ground running your temp up. Also where are you getting this reading from. Use a small program called ( core temp ) It will get the info from your bios chip ......

are you the first owner of the motherboard , someone could have made some changes in the BIOS. wouldnt heart to clear the Cmos. If you still get high temps look in to something like this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106077

Thats always an option. I installed one and I idel at 22C , when gaming it jumps to 30c. Prim95 stress test gos to 36c Good stuff.

see what the temp is in bios.

Also, download cpu-z and tell us what the revision is.

Older revisions were supposed to have problems with temp sensors. Newer ones were supposed to have that fixed, but I don't know if they did fix it really.

Clearing the Cmos chip has nothing to do with whats on your hard drive. Basically unplug the computer from the wall socket and take the computers battery out for about 3 min. That should clear the Cmos. To learn in detail what a Cmos chip and Bios chip is , Check this video out.

there should be somewhere in bios that shows the current temp of your cpu.

And if you install and run cpu-z, there will be a box that says revision.

It could have a stuck sensor then.

At this point I wouldn't worry about it. It's a known problem with e8400's.

Since you may have a stuck reading , it might not be a bad idea to get something to read your temp. Just so it would give you a general idea of where your at.

I wouldn't bother.

Just use it. If you have problems, then worry.
