Hey all,
This is my first time putting together a system and I am looking for some advice on component parts. I am reusing my moniter and peripherals, speakers, windows xp, so just the computer itself I'm looking to put together within a budget of ~800-900$. I plan to use it for video editing and making some music, and of course some gaming but I'm not tooo much a hardcore gamer, though I like to take a gander every now and then ![]() Mainly my questions are with this build list I put together are: do you think it will all work together, and if you have any suggestions for alternate or different parts, please let me know. In particular suggestions for the power supply and a solid but inexpensive case would be great since those two things I haven't really decided or have a clue about. thanks alot Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358 with Rosewill RX750-D-B 750W ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91 SLI 8800GTX SLI CrossFire Ready Active PFC PFC Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16817182069: combo deal on newegg: $201.98 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual-Core Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115132 $119.99 GFX: EVGA 512-P3-N860-TR GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130360 $104.99 Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227289 94.99 Storage: HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 HDS721075KLA330 (0A35154) 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145166 99.99 Audio: M-AUDIO Audiophile 2496 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface 4-In-4-Out Audio Card with MIDI and Digital I-O - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...iophile%202496 99.99 Case: havent picked, one - ill let you guys pick one ![]() [Bcd/dvd drive:[/B] havent picked one either :/ |

You're going to want to look at a different power supply than what is in that combo... those Rosewill power supplies are crap... not to mention, 750w is way overkill.
You'll also want to sway away from a Hitachi drive, they're not exactly known for reliability. Take a look at Seagate OEM's, they have a 5 year warranty. As for a case that is good and cheap, I just built a machine with an Antec 300, simple, very well built and functional, excellent cooling.... I still think it's weird with the power supply on the bottom, but oh well.

Here's a list.
Hope you can read it.
LIST There are two motherboards on that list. Unless you are previously familiar with Gigabyte motherboards, they can be abit tough to tame and are geared more toward the radical overclocking segment of the PC world. The two listed will be abit more user friendly. You definitely don't want a Rosewill PSU. May as well just pour gas on your new system and lite it. Dollar for dollar, the HD3870 is the best video card going right now. Especially the SAPPHIRE. You can have really amazing Xfire for less than a later model single card and bench almost to an equal status. If you would have told me that you were thinking about an E7300 one week ago, I would have laughed in your face. Those are amazing CPUs. I would recommend one to anybody for just about any PC purpose. Here's my review on one that I just tested: E7300 REVIEW They are great! Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Thanks alot, the responses were really helpful
So I picked out one of the mobos you suggested on the list along with the suggested power supply. I'll probably stick with a single graphics card solution for now, perhaps add another one later! I'm thinking of going with an ATI Radeon HD 4830. cheers, thanks again! |

I recently had a very good building experience with a Cooler Master CM 690. Pair that up with a Corsair 520w Modular PSU and you'll get great performance. Also, unless you're extremely demanding with your sound (as in you have a Bose 5.1 speaker setup for this thing), you'll probably be happy with the on-board sound. Check it out first and then buy the sound card if you're not happy. You can also take the savings on the Graphics card and use it to boost up to a G9800GTX or similar quality ATI based card.
