$300 Gaming PC
While looking through newegg, I thought it would be interesting to spec out a $300 Gaming PC with decent quality parts and good performance. Here is what I came up with:
LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model GH22NP20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136144 $20.99 IN WIN IW-Z589T.AQ350BL Black Steel MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811108073 $54.99 Western Digital Caviar RE WD2500YD 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136010 $44.99 ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131249 $46.99 HIS Hightech H465FS512P Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161262 $59.99 OCZ Vista Upgrade 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2VU8002GK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227189 $23.99 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO5000DOBOX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103211 $59.00 Subtotal: $310.94 This price doesn't include an OS, but if you can't afford to buy a version of windows, using a linux OS such as ubuntu with the WINE software will allow you to use most games/applications designed for windows on the linux OS.

I hate to say it but don't expect to be able to play any of the new games that have any serious graphics requirements for $300.
You don't start reaching that point until you hit roughly around $800 or more. I would consider a PS3, Wii or an X-Box

This $300 PC would be able to play Crysis at high settings with a 1280x1024 resolution with around 30fps, so it would handle other games fine. You have to remember that the H4670 is basically a HD3850 with a 128-bit interface, it's still quite powerful. Comparing this computer to my back up computer (Pentium D 2.8GHz, 7900GS, 1GB) which runs most games fine at medium/high settings with 1440x900 resolution, the $300 PC is probably about 20-30% faster for gaming.
