New Build
Hello all,
I'm looking to build a new computer in the $1,000 range. The main goal of the computer is to play games, mainly WoW, but also some of the new FPS on the market. With that out of the way, here is what I have come up with. Also, I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speaker system. NZXT Guardian 921 CS-NT-GD921-B Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146050 CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115041 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136218 OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227289 LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X (CAV) DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136152 PNY VCG981024GXEB-FLB GeForce 9800 GT Hybrid Power 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133244 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit English 1pk for System Builders DSP OEI DVD - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116485 I tried looking over everything as thoroughly as I could, and am pretty sure everything is compatible. Any suggestions on better components for relatively the same price on what I have listed? My main question is on the video card, that seemed like quite a steal for the price, but is it good enough that it should last for a couple years? Any other suggestions are welcome as well. Also, I remember the last time I built a computer that CRT's were still superior to LCD's for gaming. I was wondering if this was still the case now that some LCD respone times are down to around 2ms. I was thinking about finally switching over, because the CRT takes up so much room on my desk. Thanks in advance |

Good list to me.
LCDs are the way to go. Buy with confidence.

You could drop the ram down to ddr2-800 and save a few dollars. Corsair has a good deal going right now I believe.
