Building a new gaming computer for my friend. Being in high school he doesn't have much cash so running on a low budget. Only computer game he really likes to play is WoW, so not too demanding. My goal was to get him something so that he could play at full resolution and still get good fps. Here it is:
ASUS M2A Mobo: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813131172 AMD Athlon 64x2 CPU: http://www.thieverycorporation.com/ A DATA 2G DD2 RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820211066 XFX PVT84JYAJG GeForce 8600: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814150247 LG Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136149 WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16822136075 Thermaltake 500w power: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817153052 Cool Master Centurion Case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811119152 All together, it adds up to a few bucks under $500 w/o tax or shipping. Like I said, the only game this guy is going to be playing is WoW. If anyone sees any possible downgrades that could be made to this build and still fit his needs feel free to let me know. thnx

This is a better video card than the one you have in your list and costs a bit less: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814161262
Go with this power supply instead, it's better quality and costs almost half as much as the one in your list: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817371019 Your link to the processor is the same as for the motherboard.

I would go with the setup below instead, better performance:
Asus P5KPL-CM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288 Intel E5200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116072 Corsair TwinX 2x2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184 Seagate 7200.11 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 Zotac 9600GSO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500083 Antec Basiq 500W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371004 Coolermaster Centurion 590 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119152 Comes to $450.83 US before rebates

The parts you mentioned above are better than in the original post, but the total price would be closer to $600 CAD, so it might be out of budget, if increasing the budget to $600 CAD, it would be a better option to go for the Intel build.

I am in fact in the US. The reason the links are directed to on newegg.ca basing this build off another I had found, didn't realize he was from Canada lol. Rev thanks for the build, this is only my second computer so I'm still a little inexperienced about what runs best, and which parts give you your moneys worth. Talked to so people and they said that the mobo in my original build wouldn't be able to handle the rest of the components anyway. |
