Computer wont start?

Hello I have recently helped two of my friends build their own computers.
I installed everything fine except I think I was a little rusty on the power supply..

they both are pretty much using the same parts and have the same problem.
The computer will not even make a noise/power on, no lights no fans nothing.

Power supply:RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W Modular LED Power Supply (that is only for one of my friends the other power supply i will update tomorrow )

MOBO:GIGABYTE GA-M61PME-S2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Video card: EVGA GeForce 9400 GT 512-P3-N944-LR Video Card

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processser

One of my friends was moving wires around the motherboard booted up and booted up.
All of a sudden it started smoking from one side and at that point we immediately unplugged the PC.

I'm really not too sure what is going on and I will fully update more details tomorrow when I speak to them.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

The power supply is the most important part of the computer. Next time look for what is the best power supply and spend good $ on it. Now where did the smoke come from exactly. The motherboard , power supply , RAM , Hard drive. If your mother board has a black spot on it you can toss it along with the power supply. If you try using other parts you take a good chance of burning up your good parts with faulty equipment. Not a good situation.

Along w3ith inspecting the parts to see what burnt, and getting a new powr supply, do this after you have the new parts: PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!!

Raidmax power supply units are rubbish.

Always make sure you allocate enough funds to invest in a QUALITY made power supply.

The smoke started comming from the system fan plug which was accidentally plugged in wrong, and it looks like there is none to minimal damage.

update on the other power suppy:

atx12 2.2
550 watt
ls series.

I'm thinking its a case of faulty wiring.. can anyone help?
