Building my first PC, a few questions.

Hello,

I have never tried to build a PC before, but am considering it now. I am not a hardcore gamer, but play games like WOW and Oblivion. I want to be able to play some of the new games coming out, but don’t care about playing at the highest settings, as long as it doesn’t crash. I also use the PC for Java/VB etc. for school.

I have tried to put together a system that will cost around $800.00 at most. Right now with shipping I am looking at around $700.00 (no OS yet). This includes monitor/keyboard/mouse and taking off rebates.

So now my questions:

The following list is what I have come up with. Will all these parts work together? (I have done my best trying to tell, but again I am new at this)

Is this more complicated then what I should be trying on my first PC? (I can’t afford for the system not to work after spending the money)

Which Vista should I use?

Is there any place I could save money with this build, and what else will I need?

Thank you very much for your time. I hope I have these links correct.

Shawn

Substitute the Sony DVDRW for an LG or Lite-On. OEM version come with burning software.

be aware that the speakers that come on the monitor are not going to be very good. So you may want to add something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121014

look at antec cases if you want a good case/psu combo.

About the case. It has a door covering the drive bays. Be aware that those doors use small plastic pins for hinges and are VERY easily damaged. I like CoolerMaster & Antec cases.

Thanks! This is a great place to come get help. I'll check out the Antec and Coolermaster cases, and the suggested psu.

Should I get Vista 64/32 or maybe just stick with XP?

Thanks again to all of you.

This is a really good case for the money, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068. I have the one with the window and I like everything about it.

Ok, here is what I have changed so far...

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262

Changed the HD to save a little money.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003

The retail processor comes with heatsink and fan, does this mean that I won't need to buy the extra ASUS Arctic Square 92mm Vapo Bearing CPU Cooler? I will not be overclocking.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler unless you plan on overclocking it.

Your list, with changes, is good. I might suggest a more powerful video card like the 9600GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127333 Just a tad more then the one in your list but with twice the bitrate and twice the stream processors, your games will thank you.

You could probably drop the ram down to ddr2-800 as well.

Make that dvd drive sata and retail to get the software.
