Just a worry

Hey.

Just built a new PC here. Don't have it up and running yet, but I am worried about it. When I got it, my brother installed the motherboard wrong, directly to the chassis, and many believe he fried some solder points, permanentley shorting it out. We troubleshooted everything, in and out of the case, with or without various components. The mobo was just plain dead.

Now a new mobo is coming hopefully by the end of the week. The thing I am worried about is if the mobo being shorted out, affected anything else. Could it have killed the CPU, or the ram also?

Damn, I just wish I could get this thing up and running. If I go to hook everything up later this week when I have everything back and that PSU fan spins once but nothing else happens, I may have to pay for a new front window...

Thanks.

Can't really make an assumption until you recieve the motherboard. Make sure you build outside of the case with the bare essentials first so make sure the main components are in working order. Then you can install the parts back into the case WITH standoffs between the motherboard and case.

What are your system specs by the way?

You would be well advised to follow Minsongo's suggestion of an out of the case build first, if you need any help this thread has plenty of information about out of case builds:

Ok, screw tigerdirect. I keep checking the website and my email waiting for a notice of when my exchanged mobo would be shipped. I got a notice I was being credited, but think, ok, it's just apart of the exchange process. I call, only to find out the thing is on backorder and wouldnt ship till after christmas.

SO, I am ordering a new mobo on newegg TONIGHT, and need some feedback. My one that I returned on my old PC was the 63Mi (630i?) xfx mobo.

My mid-tower will not fit an SLI mobo, so i'm thinking this is my best bet right now..

Remember this is pretty a much gaming rig.

The components I have waiting in my room are 4 gigs of 800mhz corsair ram (2x2048), an EVGA 9800GTX+ Superclocked, and an Intel socket 775 Q6700.

Thanks, hope to get replies soon.

What is the make and model of the case you have?

ASUS is the recommended brand to with here for motherboards.
