How do I diagnose my now not functioning build...

I am so lost and don't even know where to start with this one.

I was just using my computer (which I built about a year ago) and some strange things started happening. My screen went black, turned back on, then went black again. Now nothing shows up on the screen at all. I have completey powered down multiple times and still nothing. I have tested the moniter on another PC and the moniter is functioning fine.

A few odther odd things...

1) as the screen flickered I had audio playing. The first time it went black the audio was still playing. Then the second and final time it went black the audio was not playing.

2) I have a dell moniter. The power button is backlit. When the moniter is on and it is getting no signal it backlit orange. When it is getting a signal it is green. It will now only stay orange when I power the pc up.

3) The Pc is getting power. All fans (case, cpu, gpu) are running.

Like I said I am so lost on how to figure out what is going on with it. I am looking for advice on what steps I should start taking. Any help would be great....

Regards

Chad

Is the system listed in your sig the computer in reference? If not, can you list the system specs?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS/BIOS as to set everything back to default?

Try leaving in only ONE stick of memory.

Do you see anything wrong inside of the case. Do you smell anything different from norm?

Yes system is as listed in sig. Graphics card is an 8600 gtx.

My freind also said I should lear the cmos/bios but I have no clue what this accomplishes or how to do it. Can you share some information.

I opened the case up and everything seemed normal. No electrical burning smell.

From the manual:

Quote:
To clear the CMOS values, place a jumper cap on the
two pins to temporarily short the two pins or use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two pins for a few seconds.
This should be done with the power off and the computer unplugged. The CLR_CMOS pins should be located near the small BIOS battery on that mobo model.
