HDD light Blinking for no reason
Hi,
I've recently build my first PC. The Case is a Antec Sonata 2, the mobo a ECS GeF7050M-M2, the CPU is an AMD Athlon A64. Everything is working fine but recently I've noticed that the green LED (power) doesn't lit up anymore but the red one (HDD) is blinking periodically. But everything is working well, really well in-fact. I don't think it's the polarity because the green LED use light up and stay on when this CPU was on. I'm just wondering what that red LED means. Is the Drive faulty? Is it running hot? Is it the MOBO? Is there any good diagnostic tool I can trust to install on this machine that could help me find out what's getting that stupid red LED to fire up? I'm kinda new to this so any help is welcome. Thanks. |

Do you have the power LED connector connected the proper way? Double check and make sure it is still connected to the pins on the motherboard. If it is still not ON, then try turning it 180 degrees and plugging in back into the pins.
The red (HDD activity) LED blinking is normal. That means there is hard drive activity occuring. |

The HDD light flashes when data is sent to or from the hard drive. if there is a lot of flashing or the light is constantly on when the PC should be idle, it usually means you have malware or a program performing idle operations. If it is only a flash every now and then, thats nothing to worry about, its just the OS doing its thing.

That's good to know. The red LED was really worrying me but if it's normal great. About the power LED I though I had it right since it use to lite up. I'm gonna check the connection for it anyway.
Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. Last edited by Ineed2know; 12-28-2008 at 08:22 PM. Reason: Forgot something |
