Question new build

components:
AMD X@ 64 4200
gSkill 2x512 {one installed for startup)
evga 7800GT
Foxcon Winfast NF4UK8AA (new)
WD 320gb ata (new)
enermax 535 watt PS
attempting WinXP32 Pro full inst
(This is the problem system)

New HDD install in a new system. New mobo. Previously used the cpu, ram and Vidcard
Shouldn't I be able to boot to the XPcd and and set up the hdd?

I get "problem detected" with hardware. Check drivers etc.
Technical info : STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000006, 0x808c8d95, 0xf803da10, 0x00000000

It had an ASUS mb AN8SLI which I thought could be FUBAR. That's why I got the Foxcon.
It's a long story. I never could tell what the exact problem was. I want to get this up and running for the wife. Heck, the DVD drive would even stop working periodically and I would have to swap it out. And it would do it again after a while and I'd put the original back in--back and forth

I swapped DVDrom drives, hard drives, ran one vid card at a time to see if I had a bad one, replaced ram--did everything except change mb 'til now. I even tried another cpu (x64 4000, haven't tried that yet in this new attempt)
So now I have a Foxcon mb and new 320 WD hdd.

I haven't done this in a year or 2 and I don't know if I'm screwing up or if there is a h/w problem. Any suggestions???

Thanks
Don

did it

I didn't use a screwdriver. I get a boot screen - can get into cmos. XP will even start installing but won't complete. hence the error message. Other times it will say error reading OS. I have 2 viv cards, 2 hdds, 2 dvds, 4 ram sticks, 2 cpus-4200 x2 and 4000 xp, even 2 mobos. WTH am I not getting right??? Could it be a faulty PS?

Those errors at that stage are usually defective ram, defective hard drive, or defective CD drive. I'd start running diagnostics - memtest86+ on the ram, manufacturer's diags on hard drives. Do your install with minimum components installed - only one HD, one ram stick, and one optical.

bootup

Installed-Lite on DVD, 1 stick G Skill, one of 2 hdds, 1-evga 7800gt, just changed ram and still get error loading os. I have changed dvd drives back and forth. I don't get it. I even changed cpus. the only original parts are the ps, and 2 evga vid cards. but only one is installed.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD and run diagnostics on your memory and hdd to eliminate those as possible causes.

Boom clarification

I have tried 4 different sticks of ram, 2 different hdds-Maxtor and WD, I have 2 evga 7800gt vidcards, I have an ASUS AN8-SLI and new Foxcon mbs, at least 3 dvd/cd roms, 2 cpus-x2-4200 and xp 4000+.
I have done the following:
installed 1 vidcard, will try the other tomorrow (may pull my 8800gt from my other pc and try it)
1 512 ram stick -2 different ones
1 dvd and 1 cd drive
1 maxtor 120gb then a wd 320 gb

I'm trying to get this thing to boot to the cd so I can format a hdd and install xp pro.

It will boot to the cd but sometimes says os error or will start the install but not finish for one error or another. Out of all this stuff I can't buy that everything is bad. I MUST be doing something wrong. But what?
