Sos
I put together a new computer consisting of an
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE MOBO, Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 CPU, 4GB Kingston 240pin DDR2, WD5001AALS SATA hard drive, ATI Radeon X1950PRO graphics card, and a Pioneer DVR-710 into an Antec 1200 case, using 500w power supply. After clearing the CMOS, I was able to get into bios. I inserted Win XP cd in drive and the following message appeared. 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.' My partner with the PC knowledge bailed; need help from the community. Thanx-in-advance |

Make sure the CD drive is first in the boot order in the BIOS.

I read that in the motherboard manual. I did set it up as !st, hardrive 2nd, and disabled the floppy. Open to any other suggestions. |

Do you have any other operating system discs to try? Are you sure it is set to boot from CD first?

It sounds to be like 1. The install disc is not being read or 2. the drive is faulty or not connected properly.
Check your connections and make sure that you have a valid install disc. If there is another computer you can test the optical drive in I would recommend that as well.
