Laptop Build

So about a month back I completed my first build and couldn't have done it with out you guys. So now I'm wondering about building a laptop. Is it more cost effective to just buy one pre-built? If I were to build one where would I find parts? Would I just buy a bare bone and then go from there. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I don't think there is a way to build a lap top, just buy a nice one from a reputable manufacturer.

You can build a laptop with a barebones kit, but there are no real advantages to doing this, and there are disadvantages (warranty). Dell has some great deals going now on laptops - just last night my stepdaughter just ordered a Vostro 1510 with a Core 2 Duo, 3 gigs ram, 250 gig hard drive, DVD burner, wireless, bluetooth, 9 cell battery, and a XP downgrade for under $700 including tax and shipping.

It is certainly possible to build a laptop, as glc pointed out, not the best route to go.

Ok thanks for the great info. I think I'll look at Dell's laptops. Is there any other brands you guys can recommend?

HP, Asus and Acer are also good brands. I've had overheating issues with all the Dell laptops I've used before (all had discrete graphics, and enough space was allowed for ventilation). If you need dedicated graphics, I would stay away from a Dell laptop as heat can be an issue. I got my parents a Dell laptop with a X1400 a year ago and even with basic tasks such as surfing the web, skype, ect. it would overheat from time to time even though the laptop had proper room for ventilation and the room temperature was around 26 degrees C (80 degrees f). I've had a few HP NC6000 with dedicated graphics and even when it was plugged in and was used for gaming for hours it would run cool. Recently I've had a HP DV9614CA with Intel integrated graphics which ran pretty cool and could get up to 5 hours of battery life of it even though it had a 17 inch screen.

I would only recommend Mac power books, Dell, and IBM Thinkpads (They are called Lenevo now). That's my 2cents worth.

I also wish they would get these netbooks a little faster with better features... That's what I want to buy
