Weird problem with new build PC

Hi there, I hope somebody can help me with my first ever built computer. I'll detail the key components I used before I describe my problem:

-Intel Core Duo 3.0Ghz Processor
-Biostar T-series TP43D2-A7 MotherBoard with Intel P43 and Intel ICH10 chipset
-Seagate 1.5 Tb Barracuda Hard Drive
-Xion case and 400W PSU

After assembling everything and booting for the first time everything went fine. I installed Windows XP Media Center Edition and after configuring everything the system recognized the Processor, RAM Memory, and the hard drive.
The problem is that I can't get my speakers to work as well as some USB devices, and I cannot connect to the internet.

It's strange because my USB mouse works, the keybord works, but my USB flash drives don't work. My speakers are connected in the green jack like they are supposed to but Windows doesn't detect any audio devices and there is no sound whatsoever.
I cannot connect to the internet. When I try to setup the router using the Comcast CD it tells me that there is no ethernet cable (the one that comes from the router) connected to the back of the computer. The problem is defenitely not the speakers cos they work on my other computer, same with my router and everything else.

In conclusion I think the problem is either in the back plate of the MOBO, or just some connector that I set up in the wrong place inside the MOBO.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, the MOBOs manual doesnt explain much and I'm completely confused and stuck. If any one had this problem hope they can provide me some feedback.
Thanks to all in advance

Serpe

I don't know how to do it. After I finished installing Windows I inserted the MOBOs driver disk and the autorun directed me to an installation wizard. I clicked Install and a error message appeared that said "Cannot find device"
I guess that might be the problem, I'm not really sure about that.
Thanks for your help.

You HAVE to install the mobo drivers or nothing will work. Go to the manufacturers website for you mobo and download the latest drivers and then install them individually. Install the chipset driver first and then LAN and audio and then other drivers if there are any.

You have to install drivers till all flags in device manager are cleared. The first driver that has to be installed is the Intel Chipset ID Utility.

You need to check the bios settings, all integrated peripherals need to be enabled - USB, LAN, and sound. You do not need a CD to set up Comcast - just plug the network cable into the router and it will work - *IF* the network adapter works and the driver is installed.

UPDATE
Thanks so much for your help. I managed to manually install all the drivers from the MOBO CD and now apparently everything works. Except I still cannot connect to the internet. The LAN is installed but it appears that is not configured properly or something. The router is connected and working properly. Does anybody know how to fix this problem?? Here are the screenshots I get when I try to repair the conection.
Thanks to everyone in advance

Please tell me what exact modem and router you have, and exactly how they are interconnected and connected to the computer.

You could try to reset your router.

Also try to restart the computer.

I have a Motorola SB5101 Cable Modem, which is normally connected to this computer (which is the one im using right now) through its ethernet port.
What I did is disconnect it from the port and connect it to the ethernet port in my new built computer and it appears that is not the same since I have the problem described above.
Also when I try to install the Comcast CD (my ISP) it tells me that I don't have a connection to the internet and cannot continue.
I think is a configuration and setup problem, I'm not really sure what else to check and how to check it.

Are there any Yellow marks in Device manager....particularly by "Network Adapters"?
Is there anything (Icons) showing in Network Connections in Control panel?
If there is an Icon, right clik it and selct "Activate".
You do NOT need the Comcast CD. When the network drivers are installed properly you will have internet access.
Resetting the router is a good suggestion.

You have to turn the modem power off for a few minutes to reset the MAC address whenever you disconnect it and connect it to a different device. I HIGHLY recommend you put a router in between the modem and the PC. Again, you DO NOT NEED the Comcast CD.

Did you turn off the new computer before connecting the modem to it?

if you can connect via USB try that and see if it will surf. if so then go to windows update.
if you cant surf, using the computer you're on now try going to the Biostar web site and downloading the newest ethernet driver. put it on a flash drive or burn it to cd if you need to.
install and reboot.
use a direct ethernet connection from the modem into the new system and see if it will surf. if not you may have a bad ethernet port.

Connecting a cable modem via USB will require drivers, and is not a good way to do it.

That took care of the problem glc. I shut off the router and turn it on again after connecting it to the new computer. It looks that everything is running smoth now.
Thanks to everybody for your help!!

glc, I saw your suggestion about turning off the modem for a few minutes before connecting to a new device. I was wondering if that is the problem I'm having with Hughesnet and the on board port. The on board ethernet port won't work but I can connect with a Linksys card. Is that considered another device or do I just have a bad on board ethernet link?

That sounds like a bad Onboard Ethernet port Hangfire.

Turning off the modem to reset the MAC only applies to cable modems, but it's a good idea to restart any modem when you plug and unplug it.
