Hard disc not detected, but it appears when I check in BIOS setup
Hi,
I just finished building my first PC, i7 build, asus p6t MOBO, PC Power & cooling 750 W PSU, Westren Digital 1tb Black Caviar hard drive CD/DVD burner: Hp (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827140026) It turned on, and everything seemed ok when I saw a quick flash of "hard disc not detected!" However, when I got to the BIOS setup part I saw my hard drive listed as one of the SATA devices in my computer. I'm not sure what to make of this, is the hard drive being read or not? What's another way to find out? Also when I tried to install Vista, early on I was asked for a CD/DVD device driver to be installed to continue, but I couldn't find a CD that came with any of my equipment that had the required drivers.. please help, thanks Edit: Now that I look again, the message might have referred to the optical drive, because I dont see it listed under the SATA devices with my hard drive in the BIOS setup screen. So maybe my optical drive isn't being read? But that also seems odd to me because it opens and closes, and it ran the Vista CD when I put it in. Last edited by schematics; 01-07-2009 at 05:58 PM. I am not familiar with how Vista does the whole SATA driver thing. What I did with XP was just enable IDE emulation on the SATA, which allows Windows setup to see it (as an IDE drive). You don't lose performance and its a whole lot easier. Have a look under Storage Configuration or similar in the BIOS for a SATA Mode option.

Thanks for the reply liambl.
Well, I found out I inserted my optical drive into the SAS plug on the mobo, not the SATA, so I changed that around and now the optical drive is indeed detected in the BIOS. However, now on start up it says No physical drive detected as well as no virtual drive detected. What should I take this to mean? |

Review your bios settings, and turn off any controller you aren't using.
