Built it but glitch every so often

Dear Members,

I just got my new computer assembled:
ASUS P5K-E/WIFI
Q6600
CORSAIR 4GB PC-8500 1066Mhz
4 HHD at 7200RPM
ASUS 3450 HDMI graphic card
WINDOWS XP x64

When everything was done, I logged and the screen/computer seems to freeze for a couple second and come back and freeze again (glitch).

I did run a Registry program to clean it, spyware and malware program, antivirus... but nothing seems to get ride of that problem. If I play music with WMP the music glitch no matter which song. Going surking on internet does it...everything.

I was wondering if my WINDOWS x64 could be the cause of the problem. So I downloaded WINDOWS 7 (64bit) and run it on a different partition. AMAZING...no glitch... BUT WINDOWS 7 doesn't like certain XP program that I used to use...

Could you help me?
SHould I reinstall XP x64 or intall a 32bit instead (My old computer was using XP Home 32 bit) ?

THanks

You could try to do a repair install and see if that works.

Did you install all the motherboard drivers?

Do you see any yellow exclamation points in device manager?

CORSAIR PSU 550W

All ASUS MOBO Drivers are installed

All ASUS video card are also installed

All Windows XP x64 update are installed

The only yellow exclamation point is related to a PCI card TV tuner video card... And will fix it later (not in use at this moment by any of my programs)

Is it sooo weird that Windows 7 works fine but not Windows XP x64...

I will try a repair with x64 this w-e

Thanks,

If you have any other comment please let me know... I really don't know what to think!

My understanding is that MS never got it right with 64bit XP. You might want to try Vista 64 and see if that changes anything. There are members here that run Vista 64 bit and are not having any issue to speak of..

Thank you...

I am playing with Windoews 7 x64 and I really like it so far. I will probably uninstall XP x64 and either go back to 32bit or buy Vista x64.

Thank you soooo much!

Very interesting:
First: Windows 7 as install his boot system in the Windows x64 partition which I didn't know. I formated my XP x64 partition and lost my Windows 7 and other stuff...

Second: I reinstall XP 32 andit glitch also...

Next step: Re-install Windows 7 and run it until august which it will stop by it self and I will go buy one copy if available.

What a nightmare...

oook,

I tried to install Windows 7 by it self and it didn't work. SO I installed Windows x64 and then Windows 7. It work just fine now but I lost 2 HHD. Windows need me to re-format them (but I have data in them)

Do you think I will be able to recover my files with a software?

Thanks
