Two fans on one mobo connector?
Can I use one mobo fan connector to control two fans (one 2-wire, one 3-wire)?
My power supply has a 3-wire fan connector that I currently have plugged into the mobo's case fan header. My new case has a 2-wire exhaust fan but I have no more headers on the mobo to plug it into. The case runs warmer than I'd like (around 40c in a 25c room) but I don't like the noise of the fan running at full speed. I know I can get a fan controller to manually adjust the speed but I don't see any that do so automatically like the mobo. What would happen if I piggybacked the 2-wire onto the 3-wire? Both fans are 80mm. |

Generally fan headers on mobos are rated for one fan. Using 2 fans on one header you run the risk of burning out the header.
