Budget Build, need your input

Okay, this my time building a computer. I have a friend to help me out so won't have trouble. My budget is about $500 possibly up to $700. Looking to build a 'somewhat' gaming computer. Only games I'll be playing are; Counter-Strike, Diablo 2 LoD, WoW and DIII(When it comes out). Already bought a case, I just need help picking out everything else.
Thanks,
`J

That's a pretty good list, however I would take a look at reducing the cost of the build since shipping (and possibly the rebates not going through) would make it go over $700. Here are some changes which will reduce the price a good amount and not really affect performance:

Get the HD4830 over the 9800GT; both cards perform about the same except for the HD4830 sells for $95 not including rebates and has a $10 rebate as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102803

Get the E5200 over the E8400; the E8400 is up to 25% faster in apps and some games (games are usually more dependent on the graphics card) and costs more than double the E5200's $73 price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116072

The last thing that could be changed to lower price is the motherboard; the Asus P5KPL-CM cost only $55, has similar (but slightly slower) performance to the P5Q PRO, has integrated graphics, will work with all the other parts mentioned here, but has somewhat limited expansion options beyond these build lists: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288

He wants a gaming pc not a home(internet browsing) pc.

Yeah but look at the games he's playing. I could easily run those on my Athlon64 3500+ with an AGP 7800GS and 1GB of RAM.

Building for the future is one thing but there's no reason to over do it.

The processor doesn't really affect gaming that much, most of the time the graphics card is still going to be the bottleneck and the E5200 is a very capable processor (it's a slightly cut down Wolfdale processor). The HD4830 is as fast as the 9800GT but costs less; no reason to go with nvidia over ATI if the ATI card performs the same but is less expensive. I recently built a computer with lower specs (see backup rig in sig) than the build would be with my recommendations, and I can easily play all those games with high settings at 1920x1200 resolution. Gaming PCs have come a long way in the last few years; they are much more affordable than they used to be.

I think your caclualtions are off, the total cost is $681.92 without rebates or shipping. I also wouldn't use the slower 9600GT over the equally priced HD4830.

Change the Samsung to WD as Samsung have bad reliability.
Most people recommend the WD now anyway:

Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136320

Most reviews of Samsung drives are favorable and they don't have reliability issues worse than WD drives.

I'd go with the E5200, ASUS P5KPL-CM and the WD HDD.

Ditto - why spend $110 on a motherboard when a $55 board will work just as well?

Most people are recommending WD over Seagate and Samsung right now because Seagate has bad firmware on their 7200.11 drives and Samsung has a history of failing. Also on WD black drives the warranty is 5 years and Seagate just changed their warranties to 3 years. I also agree there is no need for the P5Q over the P5KPL-CM.

That would also work, but it wouldn't be faster than the Intel parts list and would cost more.

Alright, thanks.
Will work on that build..
As soon as I get my tax return.
Excited.
