Angry Fire ASUS mobo LED poster reads CPUINIT

Hi guys,

Maybe someone could give me some ideas to get my computer up and running.

First the specs:

OS: None yet---- I want to load WinXP Pro
Case: Thermaltake Zaser Damier V6000A
Mobo:Asus Crosshair II
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 6400+ 3.2 Ghz
CPU fan + heatsink : Thermaltake Blue Orb II
PSU: Corsair HX1000 watt
RAM: Corsair DDR2 800 XMS series (chosen from Asus list)
Video card: EVGA 55nm Superclocked GTX 260 core 216
DVD drive: Pioneer DVR-216DVK
Floppy: Samsung
HDD: Seagate SATA 250 ghz Barracuda

I went to turn the power on and NOTHING happens!! However, I did get an error message of "CPUINIT". The only things that light up is a LED light in the southbridge that says "Republic of gamers", a red LED at the bottom of the mobo obscured by the vid card, and the LED poster that has the message. The fans do not come on either!

The RAM was chosen from the Asus QVL list, and everything was checked several times before power was applied.

Since the case fans get power directly from the PSU(but do not work) , would that be the culprit?

Thanks,

CI

PS: Everything is brand new and care was taken to avoid any static electricity during assembly.

Make sure you have the 4 or 8 pin cpu power connector properly plugged into the motherboard.

Make sure your motherboard has the latest bios available from the asus website.

Make sure you're not overclocking (at least until you get it working properly without first).

Make sure ram speed and timing settings in the bios are correct for your installed memory. Dont trust auto-detection or at least doublecheck what settings it guessed at.

Although the CPU and fan doesn't come on as the fan is plugged into the motherboard, shouldn't the other case fans come on since they're hooked up directly to the PSU with the molex connectors? The molex connectors are not hardwired into the PSU as they are part of the modular cables.

Also, if I have a bad PSU would I get the same error reading?

I have read both of your posts but I've not done anything yet. After all the work assembling and routing cables, then disappointment, I'm not a happy camper at the moment!

Thanks,

CI

I'll know more shortly, but I managed to get it to come on using the RESET button on the motherboard, but it will not work using the RESET button in the rear at the I/O shield.

Does this sound like a malfunction with the switch or is something not hooked up?

I did take the video card out to access the reset switch. I'm going to move the video card to another slot. In the meantime I hope to find out why one switch does not work. The mobo does have integrated graphics.

Thanks,

CI

Looks like the motherboard has a 4 pin CPU fan connector and the Blue Orb has 3. So, probably the power lines on the fan are not matching the mobo connector. Would try using the CPU heatsink/fan combo that came with the CPU.

I finally got it up and running but now I have other bugs to work out!! The last build I did went just as smooth as you could want.

OTOH, this thing is trying to get me to destroy it with all of the BS. Now I have a problem with the monitor plus 2 other lesser problems (but no less aggravating!)

Apparently my older computer has me spoiled. I can count the problems I had on ONE hand with fingers left over!

Not including the monitor, the other problems are:

1)Will not start using the main ON button. It will ONLY start with using the internal power-on switch . (reset switch not working either but it is lit up.

2) HDD light in front doesn't work.

i'm going to the section on monitors for that problem.

Thanks!

CI

it sounds like you have the front panel connectors on the wrong pins. pull them off and triple check each one and its location in your motherboard manual. reinsert them and give it a try.

Agree with Phigdon; sounds like the connectors are on the wrong pins. Here's a foolproof solution:

I got one of those with my Asus motherboard. I plugged everything in as directed while hooking up the other cables & wires.

Tomorrow I'll go back over and make sure that they are definitely correct and that none were pulled out accidentally.
