I want to get into gaming and i have priced some dells and gateways. Now i want to know is it better to to buy one or have one built? I dont have the know how to build one but i do have friends that can. I have $1600 for the tower and another $300 for monitor $200 for mouse and keyboard. I would like this to play fps, rts and flight sims. If you guys could help out and give me some ideas on what i should do i would be thankfull.

I would build. For that budget you can build a very nice computer, and get better value than buying a prebuilt.

Are you in the US?

If you want, we can give you a basic build and can adjust it from there.

Several issues with that build:

1. What brand is that power supply?

2. I know it's an Asus, but that's a low end motherboard.

3. Liquid cooling is a needless expense.

4. I would not use a hard drive with only 16mb cache.

5. Opti's are low end UPS units.

6. These days, always try the onboard video before buying a sound card.

For your money you can build yourself a nice computer on your own. Most people here started out that way with no experience including me.. For what your spenidng at ibuypower, you can build your own quality unit. And I'm willing to bet that ibuypower will not use top quality parts either.. i take that back in a way, guess you choose the parts from whats listed..

That comes to: $1470 before shipping and rebates. You could up it to 3x2gb ddr3, and then get vista hp 64.

Keyboard, and mouse can be bought from a local store, or at least test their feel at a local store.

Here is an AMD alternative for $1514.91 before shipping and rebates. The processor is a bit slower than the Core i7, however the video card is much faster than the GTX285 (its anywhere from 40-80% faster depending on the game), has better quality sound (ADI makes the best integrated sound chipsets; at least when it comes to gaming) and 4GB of ram (the ram is on the motherboard's QVL list), everything else is the same as the build above.

All parts come with warranties. Motherboards and CPUs are usually 3 years, video cards vary from a few years to 'lifetime' and hard drives are 3-5years. So you can always replace parts if you happen to get a lemon.

Either of those builds will play Crysis no problem.

Any of the builds mentioned above will be under that budget.

And they all can be added to to give better performance since your budget increased.
