Putting it all together..first of many questions
First, my build:
LG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner w/ SecurDisc Tech Black SATA Model GH20NS15 - OEM Item #: N82E16827136149 COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Item #: N82E16822136319 Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail Item #: N82E16824009145 EVGA 896-P3-1258-A1 GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail Item #: N82E16814130443 CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail Item #: N82E16817139006 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail Item #: N82E16820231122 ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813131295 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail Item #: N82E16819115017 Now, I will admit, I am exhausted and without sleep, so the only question I can remember to ask correctly is concerning the ribbon cable. The manual for the MOBO said if the hard drive is SATA, which it is, to connect the ribbon to the sata controller. I have looked at the mobo a million times and the layout in the manual as well and there is nothing I can see labeled as such. In fact, the only plug that even looks like the ribbon cable could fit onto is the one said to be for the floppy drive (which I am not installing) So do I need the ribbon cable to hook up somewhere and if so, where? Also, the manual for the graphics card says if I have a supplemental power, to go ahead and hook it up. There are two spots where the PCI will fit, and I have plenty coming out of the PSU. However the card it came with a connector that will split it into two 3 pin ends. I am confused as to what I need to do to get this hooked up correctly...I dont see what I have that may connect to the three pins. Thanks for any input I get, I hope I am making sense... |

Did your WD SATA hard drive come with the SATA cable? If so, there are 7 red ports with one white port on the mB. Don't know if the white one is for the primary HD, but that should be listed in your manual.

If the WD hard drive didn't include the SATA cable, you can pick one up at any computer shop that sells parts. They are inexpensive.
Looking at the specs on Newegg, it looks like your graphics card has a 6 pin connector. |

here is the best pics I could find for you on the fly, this will answer your question on the sata
http://www.misco.co.uk/content/MODUL...DRIVE.HTM?bp=1 oh, your motherboard should have come with all the cables, unless you bought an open box your graphics card has a 2 6pin power connectors and your power supply has many of those, you need to plug 2 of them into your card there is also a audio loop cable. It should be spelled out in the video card manual. You might be getting confused due to all the cables in the box. they provide 2 mollex to 6pin adapters (for older power supplys) your power supply has a bunch of 6pins as shown in the link below. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...Power%20Supply Last edited by jdeb; 02-15-2009 at 01:35 PM. |

Your motherboard came with SATA data cables - those are the little thin red cables. Your power supply has some SATA power connectors. Put the hard drive on SATA 1 and the DVD on SATA 2, the ports are marked and also shown in the manual.
SATA drives do NOT use ribbon cables. |
