A Great Big Thank You!
Well, she is built, AND working! (I am using her to post this thread
)Thank you so much for the assistance from those of you that replied to my numerous threads! Your help was invaluable! One final noobie question... I do not have sound. I took the speakers off the other computer until I buy new ones. Plugged it in and I get no sound. I did not purchase a sound card, so I guess that is the next step then? I need to read up on that. To be honest I kind of completely forgot about sound cards. BTW, any one have recomendations for great speakers? I would really like to be able to use the computer as a great music player (play itunes rather that my crappy boombox) Again, I cant thank you guys enough! I'm off to tinker with the new beast! Two possibilities for your sound issues. First check in the Device Manager and make sure you have no yellow ! showing. This would indicate a problem. Did you install the drivers for the on board sound? They would be on the mobo cd. If you are using older speakers that are unpowered (passive speakers), they won't work on the newer onboard or sound cards. You need powered (plug em in a wall socket for power) speakers. Logitech, Creative and Altec Lansing are good brands. Just check for the configuration you would like.

If installing the audio drivers doesn't seem to work, make sure onboard audio is turned on in bios.

If you can find Klipsch Promedia 2.1's anywhere, they sound great.
Harmon Kardon Soundsticks are odd looking, but it is a brand I trust and the price promises something decent sounding. I'd also trust Altec Lansing more than Logitech, just because they are more focused on sound. Creative ... dunno.
