New build questions

Hello,
I want to build a system using a new board and processor that I purchased to repair a problem for a friend. The parts did not fix the problem so now I want to use them in a new build.

These are the parts I have.

Retail version of Vista Home I purchased for the system I am replacing.

ECS C51PVGM-M (V1.0) Socket AM2 for AMD Athlon™ 64 processor (Motherboard)

AMD Athlon 64 LE-1640 Orleans 2.6GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 45W Single-Core Processor - Retail

This is the Memory I want to add. Says its 1.9 volt. Does that make a difference? Other DDR2 ram is 2.1 volt.?

I would suggest a better MOBO than the ECS. The RAM & HDD should be fine.

Would you be open to 4GB RAM and 64-bit version of Vista?

He already has RAM. I assume Kevin0ne is trying to keep the cost down and build a budget PC?

It says he wants to add RAM, not he has it, but then again your probably correct.
He probably does want a budget pc.

Yes I want to keep the price down.
Basicly I alrady bought motherboard as an OEM replacement for an Emachine to correct a problem. The motherboard was not the problem so I just want to build a system using the components. It will replace an older computer used a family member to surf the web and play on POGO.

How can I tell if this board takes 1.9 voltage memory that I listed and the 3.0 harddrive

PS I already have the operating system

Kevin,

Your hard drive selection is fine since you have already purchased it, it will probably do what you need it to do...

you selected a dma100 drive and it is fine as well, please see link...

Your board is fine as well. the majority of the regulars will give you an asus recommendation based on their experience, they would only advise you to what has worked for them. I recommend Foxconn boards all the time and although it is not the norm here, I only post based on my experience with this manufacture. The recommendations are very good on this message board and the regular posters are very technical and proud.. they only want you to have a great experience and keep you coming back.. we are like a family so to speak.

In terms towards your memory that is a very good question. You are very smart to try and do the research required to make sure you are not throwing away money. Most motherboard company's will supply a list of tested memory but unforntunately ecs does not do this with this particular board. I can tell you from experience that the ddr2 memory you would require for this board is a 1.8 volt module.
