First build -- is my motherboard fried?

I have a gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H motherboard and a OCZ GameXStream 700 watt power supply. I've checked over everything repeatedly, and I *think* I connected it all right, buuut...

When I turn on the computer I hear a high pitched whine, but that's it. The light on the motherboard doesn't even turn on. To make matters worse, after going back and googling the does and don'ts of building again I realized that I probably rested the board on the bag it came in for a minute, which is apparently Very Bad.

So, is it fried? Or might I just be doing something wrong?

Can you post the rest of your specs?

Have you tried the out of case build?:
Having problems with a new build? Try this.

But then again, if you say you rested it on the bag, you might have fried it.

The processor's an AMD X4 940; I didn't install the video card yet because the motherboard has onboard graphics and I didn't want to complicate things.

Someone lent me a power supply tester, and apparently it's the PSU after all. >_<; The test indicated that it was defective and could damage my computer; I'm really, really hoping that wasn't the case. I'm sending the psu back for a replacement and I'm going to try to borrow a spare power supply tomorrow ... the motherboard's so shiny and new, it'll really break my heart if it's fried whether it's my fault or not.

Thanks for responding ... I hate it when things don't work. ;_;

Since the MOBO light never came on I'm assuming power never got to the MOBO and I'm betting the MOBO is OK. Good Luck!
