Question Asus

Hi All

I'm a new PC builder and I was considering ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard or ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard .

I primarily use a micrsoft flight simulator, excel, word processing, and down load streaming video from netflix thru PC to my TV and would like flexibility of upgrading when and if I require it.

My concern - I have read reviews for ASUS, it sounds like the after service department sucks big time and about 1 out of seven boards may be a lemon, am I reading the reviews right???.

As a first time builder would I be getting in over my head with ASUS? Would I be better off with an intel board?

If you're in the US, we recommend that you buy from a place like Newegg.com

If you do, and the board is bad, you have 30 days to return it: http://www.newegg.com/HelpInfo/ReturnPolicy.aspx#2

So as long as it's within 30 days, you won't have to deal with Asus.

If you're worried about the board dying after that, well that's a chance that everyone takes. I can't say that I've heard about those boards going bad on any type of large scale. Every manufacturer will have something die on them eventually, but it's generally rare from what I can tell, and we recommend those boards a lot here.

Asus really is one of the best board manufacturers. Combined with a 30 day return policy to the retailer, its hard to beat that.

I have heard a lot of bad things about their customer service, but since I have never yet had a problem with an Asus product I can't comment on that.

I've used Asus exclusively (with a couple of exceptions) over the last 6 years. That's about 50 builds according to my records. The only doa mobo I had in the lot was one I purchased as an "open box" and I knew I was taking a chance. Newegg took it back with no questions and refunded my money. I had 4 boards fail from the well known issue with the Southbridge issues on the 865 Chipset mobo's. All were Asus and all were handled under warranty with no problems. Communication with their warranty department was all done via email and all returns/repairs were handled expeditiously. I even contacted them to obtain I/O shields for mobo's I purchased from Newegg as "open box" and on 3 different occasions they sent me the shields at no charge. I have never had a problem with their service. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe I don't approach service departments with a demanding attitide. I spent over 30 years in the Industrial Service business and nothing makes a person slow down faster than a first time customer with a bad attitude - or any customer for that matter. Treat people with respect and ASK what is possible and they will take care of you. Raise heck and get demanding and you'll get ignored like the fat kid when you're picking teams for kick ball.

I have never had the pleasure of dealing with Asus but I doubt they are any worse than the others.
I've used Asus exclusively for several yrs. and I have yet to get a bad one or have one fail...including a few Open Box specials.
