Self made problems
Hey guys i'm new here as you can tell, and Im having a hard time with my pc, hoping you guys can help. I have a self built pc that was running fine but after swapping out some parts it fails to boot. Here's the hardware I have so far:
Intel core 2 duo e6300 Intel dg33tl media series mobo 2 gig ddr2 Wd caviar 1tb sata drive Antec neo he 550w Lite-on sata dvdrw Today I installed: Smc pci network card Asus xonar dx sound card pcie Plus tv pe360a pcie tuner card Replaced 2 1 gig sticks with 2 2 gig sticks (1 gig sticks were borrowed while i waited for samsung to replace my doa sticks, orderd 2 more cosairs in the meantime) Everything ran fine after installing drivers, tuner card was non functional though. I powered down everything, and removed and replaced the tuner. I figured while I was at it i might as well install an ide hd i have laying around. I hooked that up, powered back up no boot. I uninstalled the ide hd rebooted still nothing. I am now down to the sata hd, 1 stick ram, and cpu and i am getting no boot. When i boot it says windows xp like normal then black screen. Please help, im ready to ditch this project. I tried running the intel drivers disk an it just gives me a message ---table device insert boot disk and press any key. Fist part of message is cut off Last edited by HiTheNameIsBJ; 02-26-2009 at 10:03 PM. |

Assuming you still have problems, you might want to see if you can boot into Safe Mode (push F8 a few times right after the POST screen) and if you can get in, poke around a bit (Device Manager, Event Viewer, etc.) and see if anything jumps out at you. Also, you might want to run a checkdisk repair (Command prompt, then CHKDSK C: /R) and then see if the disk check will run when you boot back into normal mode. If it doesn't make it back to the disk checking screen (quite possible), you might want to see if you can slave the main hard drive to another system and run CHKDSK that way. I have found that CHKDSK will sometimes remedy boot problems. Another thing that I don't hesitate doing with XP machines with booting issues is to run a Windows Repair installation. The only caveat there is that you may have to reinstall IE7, and AVG Antivirus if you're running it. Other than those those two known issues, Windows Repair installs have saved my bacon many times. HTH,
