New build issues

two weeks ago i assembled a computer (parts in my sig) and it booted up perfectly. installed vista basic 64-bit n after running for a few days some inconsistencies popped up (memory dump errors n crashes a few times) but it continued to work until about a week afterwards when the sata drives (dvd/cd drive n a hd) could not be recognized no matter what i tried, different cords, different plugs on the board, fiddling with things in the bios couldnt detect them. after each trial with these i would set the bios defaults back.

One day i booted up and noticed that A) my screen was getting no signal and B) my video card fan was speeding up and slowing down, not normal, but it was doing it consistently and C) more recently i noticed that during this my usb keyboard does not light up like it usually does. ive really tried to narrow this last problem down, using different monitors and pcie slots, resetting cmos in case by some chance it was bios related, but after finding nothing (got into bios 1 out of ~40 attempted boots, then it froze) i figured it had to be the video card. returned it, got new one, same problem, i was wrong. i dont have another computer that i can try the hardware in so its hard for me 2 narrow down. i listed the other problems in case they mite have any relation to this most recent one, but really my question is, what is the problem? what do i need 2 do to find/fix it?

*this is my first build ever so there is always the possibility that despite taking ever precaution i knew to take, i did something incorrectly, but in all my searching i cannot find a solution to this problem

do you have any spare memory? i hate that memory by the way... not that it is the problem but I have had that problem with that brand.

did one stick show the same dump?

did you update the nvidea drivers since the install? if so, you may want to go back to the previous one.

no spare memory, v unfortunately, n i have tried booting with each stick individually, monitor stil doesnt get a signal, keyboard never gets turned on, and when i had the physical memory dump errors, it was 2-3 times and then didnt happen for a few days. i couldnt figure out what caused them.

well... if you think your hardware is good and you don't have any spare parts to test, you might consider a fresh install of the os and drivers like you had in the beginning. It sounds like a memory or video driver issue too me.

try a live version of linux for the heck of it.

If you're having trouble getting into bios, and you couldn't get a post screen when you tried the out of case build, then it's a hardware problem.

Substitution is the best way. I would have said ram, but you tried each stick individually already. (Note: I'm not a fan of filling all 4 slots.)

Next would be either the power supply, or motherboard. It's possible that it could be both.

I was thinking he might get lucky again and be able to post in order to do a fresh install, in the event it was a video or chipset driver issue... I thought he was still able to boot once in a while, maybe I am reading the original post wrong.

did you update the BIOS? I believe the M3 series will only run the phenom II's with an update. My M3A78-T needed one as well.

bios version is up to date, and it works, 0602, with phenom IIs, it WAS working w/ my phenom II, 4 about a week =P the cpu fan spins and all, power appears to be fine to the video card, 12v to the mobo, both getting 12v readings when i checked them. is this really a motherboard problem then for sure? id b sending it back at no expense but 30 days would be up shortly after receiving the new motherboard, giving me very little time in case it was another issue.

in case this could be of help to someone in the future, it appears that my problem was related to a bad ram SLOT, the A1 slot was the problem with it not booting properly, and making the video card function wrong. good thing i finally checked that =P still no idea on the problems related to SATA devices =P
